Leaks, rust, impact damage, loose fascia and drainage problems can be symptoms of different underlying conditions. Document what you can see, protect the site when safety is in question, and match the next step to the condition rather than guessing at the repair.

Photograph the point of impact, column or framing deformation, displaced fascia or soffit, and surrounding connections. If structural adequacy is in question, keep people away from the affected area and obtain the appropriate professional evaluation.
Rust and corrosion
Surface rust and advanced section loss are not the same condition. Look for recurring moisture, drainage problems, coating failure and deterioration at connections or concealed transitions.
Leaks and ponding
Water appearing below a canopy may originate from gutters, downspouts, seams, penetrations or ponding. Trace the water path instead of treating only the visible drip.
Loose or damaged fascia
Wind, impact, failed attachment, deterioration and prior modifications can all contribute. Document the affected run and adjacent panels.
Damaged decking or soffit
Check the extent of damage, moisture exposure and how the affected material interfaces with purlins, trim and drainage.
Sagging or visible deformation
Do not assume the cause from appearance alone. Structural concerns warrant appropriate evaluation before repair scope is selected.

What to send a canopy contractor
Include wide photos showing the entire canopy, close-ups of the problem, the station address, approximate canopy dimensions, when the problem started, whether an impact occurred, and any drawings or previous repair information available.
Repair, structural evaluation or replacement?
